So, as one of the organizers of last year’s Finding Our Roots conference, I feel justified in asking why the 49th Street Underground is involved in putting on an anarchist event, given that this is a group with pronounced Trotskyist sympathies?

AFAIK, 49th Street Underground is not “involved in putting on” FOR, so I have no idea where you’re getting that from. Perhaps you are confused because FOR, 49th Street Underground, and the IWW are co-sponsoring a list of events at Mess Hall, including an Ecology of Labor presentation tonight? In any case, while 49th Street Underground is not anarchist, they are also non-sectarian.

I stand corrected on 49th St. Underground’s (lack of) connection to the conference. However, I am curious as to why FOR would want to co-sponsor events at the Mess Hall or anywhere else with a group that has Trotskyist affinities. In this case, it’s not just a matter of the 49th being “not anarchist”, but of their sympathizing with an openly statist and authoritarian ideology such as Trotskyism. I have spoken with J before, and he told me about his interest in Chavez, as well as his curiousity about the RCP. I also have heard the group described as Trotskyist by a friend of mine who has been to several of their meetings and regularly checks out their discussion board - and he is hardly hostile towards them.

As I understand it, 49th Street Underground is simply an _anticapitalist_ discussion group open to all left elements. It is quite possible that some people in that group have Trotskyist affinities, but from what I’ve heard that’s not the case with everyone in the group, nor is it the focus of the group.

On a different note, could floor and room numbers be inserted into this schedule?

The exact workshop locations will be available at registration, but not before then, sorry.
